Liao Chi-Chun was born in Fengyuan, Taichung. After graduated from Taipei School of Education in 1922, he proceeded to study in Tokyo Fine Arts School, graduated in 1927, and came back to Taiwan. He was deeply involved in the contemporary Western Art trends, active in many exhibitions, various groups and organizations, he also co-founded Sincere Island Club and Tai-Yang Fine Art Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

Liao served as a teacher in National Normal University and Chinese Culture University. In 1957, He encouraged students to form Fifth Moon Art Group and helped breed the first fruits of modern art in Taiwan. He went on an invited tour to US and Europe in 1962, subsequently developed an unpretending, bright-colored, glamorous yet harmonized style in his paintings\u2014pink paint was largely applied as he established this unique personal style. His works have won Zhongzhan Awards in Art and Culture and Golden Lordship Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Liao passed away of illness in 1976. To follow the spirit of his lifelong dedication , Liao\u2019s family donated some of Liao\u2019s representative works to Taipei Fine Art Museum in 1997; simultaneously, to encourage next generations to engage in oil painting and art studies, the Liao Chi-Chun Memorial Scholarship was started and funded by private companies. He had truly left a legacy.
