SACRIFICIAL SCOUR<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]The artwork \u201cSACRIFICIAL SCOUR\u201d is made solely of scouring pads. In the process of cleansing vessels, a scouring pad gets stained, torn and worn out.\u00a0 In a way, it has \u201csacrificed\u201d, hence making it a suitable material for depicting the theme.\u00a0 The torn sheets of scouring pads are layered and patched to form the shape of an outstretched hand, with a cut hole and stained paint to represent Christ\u2019s crucifixion.\u00a0\u00a0 When this work was first exhibited, a visitor exclaimed that he thought it looked like the sky clearing up in the centre amidst the gloom and a long path with lamp-post towards the right.\u00a0 It was until he saw the hand at the end of the artwork that he realized it was the Christ\u2019s hand!\u00a0 This reminded me in John 14:6, where Jesus said to Thomas,\u00a0\u201cI am\u00a0the way,\u00a0the truth, and\u00a0the life.\u00a0No one comes to the Father\u00a0except through Me. \u201c, and \u201cYour word\u00a0is\u00a0a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.\u201d (Psalm 119:105).\u00a0 Indeed, God can work through humble everyday materials and this artwork to show Himself as the One who \u201ccalled us out of darkness into His wonderful light\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

P.S. [\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]The very first Passover refers to God preserving the Hebrews in Egypt by instructing them to put the blood of lamb (symbol of Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for man\u2019s sins) on the top and both sides of the doorframes, and to stay indoors so that the destroyer would pass over the households when he saw the blood, and not harm them.\u00a0 Coincidentally, Chinese down the history have also practised placing red couplets written with auspicious blessings over their doorframes to keep off evil spirits, and to celebrate the Pass-over of the \u201cYear\u201d (\u2018Nian\u2019, \u5e74, supposedly a legendary beast)\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The word \u201cLamb\u201d (\u2018Yang\u2019, \u7f8a) appears in many Chinese characters related to peace, kindness, beauty, image, righteousness…, which may well suggest the sacrificial lamb of God \u2013 Jesus.\u00a0 God\u2019s still small voice indeed transcends time, space and cultures to proclaim His Shalom in this turbulent world\u2026<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
