The works on this exhibition are based on the calligraphy from my mother, Juan Ching-Hung, as the original creation prototype for the three-dimensional calligraphy sculpture. Materials used for most of the works are stainless steel and brass to reflect the background surrounded while making the sculpture creation more dynamic as well as more connected to the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The character of \u201c\u5c71\u201d is from figurative graph. It is based on the shape of a mountain and contains peaks with different height. Therefore, it is transformed from the oracle bone script into the character of \u201c\u5c71\u201d. The philologist, Hsu Shen, said, \u201cmountain means declaration. It can disperse the air and bear all being. Its height is achieved by rocks.” Chinese people are used to use \u201cthree (\u4e09)\u201d to represent majority, and the character \u201c\u5c71\u201d also means \u201caccumulation\u201d. Idioms using the character normally contain the meaning of abundance, such as favors weighty as a mountain, as steady as Mountain Tai, may your age be as the southern mountain, and lifting up the eyes to the mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am trying to use the curves and slopes in the shape to express the feeling of mountains and hills.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_separator][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Land<\/span><\/p>\n

Land is where all beings presenting themselves and is the vast area of habitat for human beings and living beings. Guanzi said, \u201cthe earth produces and nourishes all things\u201d, and the abundance of producing on land is also a kind of blessing. According to Mengzi, \u201cthe opportune time is not as good as geographic advantage\u201d. Geographic advantage is a kind of good luck. It is endless and is the extension and expansion of the border.<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, the expansion of border of land, possessing the land forever.<\/span><\/p>\n

It can be strong wind or gentle breeze, and it carries huge natural strength as well as has the function of seed dispersal.<\/span><\/p>\n

Romance of the Three Kingdoms mentioned, \u201ceverything is ready, all we need is an east wind.\u201d Wind means the critical condition. Idiom \u201cdifferent categories of rainfall intensity and wind scales\u201d means good weather for the crops.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wind (feng) is the same sound as abundance (feng).<\/span><\/p>\n

Other than maintaining the original calligraphy, the overall design tries to present the dynamic of ribbon blown by the wind.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_separator][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

The blooming of flowers II<\/span><\/p>\n

The blooming of flowers means the start of beauty, pretty views, and wonderfulness.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flowers have a variety styles and appearances, and they are like the start of a colorful life. Flowers bloom in the warm spring, and the flowers end with fruits.<\/span><\/p>\n

The shape of an egg is similar to the shape of heart. We often say our heart is in full blossoms, which means pleasant, joy, delighted, and happy. It also refers to the ability of birth and reborn.<\/span><\/p>\n

The character of flowers can be pushed out and picked up from the shape of egg and displayed as two works.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being blessed is like the timely rain. The regular spring rain and autumn rain bring a wonderful growing environment for crops, and it also represents the best wishes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rain makes the dry land fertile and brings vigor and vitality. Timely rains represent the real-time assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The round beans in the design look like rain, raindrop, dew, and dewdrop.<\/span><\/p>\n
