Chuang Ming-Ta(1966-)
The first Chinese sand painting artist, performs dynamic sand paint sand draw sand drawings. After graduating from the fine art department of senior high school and discharging from the military service, he joined TTV as an art director. Later, he moved to an advertising agency as a planning director and thus entered the field of body painting. He actively investigated the field of niche makeup, becoming one of the earliest body makeup artists in the Chinese community. In 2002, he came across the idea of sand drawing in the video of the World Cup in Korea and was inspired to take a try. Later, he came across a sand painting video titled “Genesis” by a Hungarian sand painter circulating on the Internet, which further aroused his interest in developing it. Since there was no relevant know-how as the reference in Taiwan, he relied on the Internet to search for new creative concepts and techniques. He treated his dining table and living room coffee table glass as drawing boards, surrounding them with partitions and tape to work diligently on his paintings. To compensate for the limitations of one-handed painting, he shifted his habit of hand movements, inserting his right hand into his pocket and allowing himself to use his left hand in daily life to paint with both hands. He considers sand painting to be much more complex than human body painting, as human body painting and drawing can be done slowly without time constraints, but sand painting cannot be done within one minute. In his opinion, there is no sense of accomplishment in the process of learning sand drawing because the work cannot be kept forever. It is like a process of life, where one can only do well in the moment. Therefore, he is currently still pushing forward a new creative process.
