Hebrews 1:2-3

‘…whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High…’

This artwork depicts our Heavenly Yeshua as the king and heir of the world. Unlike earthly rulers who wear golden crowns, upon His head rests the crown of thorns which symbolizes the suffering He took on our behalf. In receiving the punishment and humiliation of the crucifixion even though He was perfect and without sin, He became the heir of the world and also fulfilled His mission of redeeming sinful humanity to become co-heirs with Him. Today Yeshua is seated at the right hand of the Father as the king of this universe.

I often think about how the era we live in today demands “instant gratification.”  From Instagram to instant noodles… It once took multiple processes to develop a photo and strenuous hours to knead the flour, roll it, make them into noodles. Today we can enjoy noodles in a cup in 3 minutes and the exhilaration of someone liking our photo the very second after we shoot and share it online.  This has caused us to lose the art of patience and the ability to wait in a posture of expectation and peace.

When I first read Psalm 37:7, which says, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him,” I discovered that the word “wait patiently” in the original Hebrew language is “Hul”. “Hul” in its root meaning is “to dance, to twist, to whirl in a spiral manner, to travail and wait longingly.” What an intriguing connection! In this word hides the idea of that we can dance in the waiting. Indeed, we can choose joy and peace while twirling and waiting on our LORD Yeshua to bring to pass the promises He has given.

I decided to use the Betta Fish as the subject of this series to always remind us of this truth as I have always been fascinated by its beauty and elegance when they twirl graciously in the waters. Betta fishes often have to be on their own too, symbolising the journey of waiting for our breakthroughs and miracles with the LORD that no one can help us with.

In the waiting is a victory dance that we can dance out in faith, together with Yeshua alone.

Cross

Isaiah 53:5

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.

The object of our faith, the cross of calvary, this is our receipt that Jesus has paid for our healing! Whatever report you might receive from the doctors, the promises of His healing overrule the natural. May this art and His Words of truth be your new report that you hold on to.

Isaiah 26:4

Trust in Adonai forever, for the LORD Adonai is a Rock of ages.

This series is inspired by the imagery of our God as a rock – steadfast, immovable, unshakeable. Taking a modern spin of the concept of a rock, I used a lego block to portray this inspiration for this series. You will also see Bible verses written around it, illustrating that God’s Word is our firm foundation that we can stand upon!

Bread

Matthew 4:4

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

Many Christians have read these words of Jesus but our attitude towards the Bible shows if we have actually believed it. If the average person eats 3 meals a day, surely we need to feed on the Word of God more than once a week on Sunday. Let us not only work for bread that perishes but for the sustenance that feeds our soul!

King of kings
30x30cm, 60x60cm, 80x80cm, 100x100cm, 140x140cm

Revelation 19:16

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written:  KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

As the King of this universe, our LORD Jesus will reign over the whole earth with perfect justice and mercy. Like the lion leads his pride, we follow the LORD of our lives, who will lead us to a life of love, joy and shalom.

Do Not Worry About Tomorrow
30x30cm, 60x60cm, 80x80cm, 100x100cm, 140x140cm

Matthew 6:26-27

Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Worries and negative thoughts plague us day and night. It becomes so much a part of our lives that we learn to live with it. Every time I am worried, I feel all alone. Worries paralyse us, causing us not to think logically. But the Bible talks about what Jesus says “do not worry about tomorrow”. What was Jesus looking at when He shared this? Was He looking at the birds in the air? What references did He refer to? He said look at the birds of the air… and in the land of Israel especially the Sea of Galilee, there are lots of small sparrows and most likely Jesus would have referred to a sparrow. That is where I drew my inspiration from.

Thirst
80x40cm, 120x60cm, 160x80cm, 200x100cm

Psalm 42:1-2

As the deer pants for the water brooks,

So pants my soul for You, O God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When shall I come and appear before God?

This verse reveals the unspoken truth of the human soul – we are created with a deep longing that cannot be satisfied by the world. From pursuing our dreams and establishing our career to chasing romance and finding intimate connections, we spend our lives in search for something that can quench this thirst, not knowing it is found only in the person of Yeshua Himself. May this artwork inspire you to realise that there is more, more to life, and more of God.

From Strength to Strength
80x40cm, 120x60cm, 160x80cm, 200x100cm

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

This inspiration came when I was waiting for the Lord to lead me in a new season in my life.  This verse came to me “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint”. I knew that if I needed new strength for my season, it is to wait upon Him and to wait for Him to act on my behalf. I can then be like this eagle that will mount up with wings and ready to conquer the challenges ahead.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
